Wandering with Bugs
虫游

Chun Yang Tai, Guangzhou

18.11.2023 – 18.4.2024

At Chun Yang Tai, a serene space tucked away in Guangzhou, Bug Journey invites viewers to wander, to slow down, and to see the world from a different scale. This exhibition traces the long companionship between artist Zhu Yingchun and the bugs that inhabit his garden—a collaboration shaped by time, patience, and quiet observation.

As visitors move through the space, they encounter drawings made by bugs themselves: juice trails left by antennae, crawling marks on xuan paper, bite patterns etched into leaves and tree bark. These natural traces become abstract compositions, revealing a spontaneous, expressive language of movement and instinct. On surrounding walls, bug trails turn into visual poems—snail paths, spider threads, beetle tracks—each one carrying a rhythm that echoes the poetry of life.

The exhibition unfolds through different rooms, each offering a unique way of seeing. One invites you to get close to the ground, to witness the daily dramas of bug life. Another showcases bug homes—tunnels, nests, woven webs—structures built with precision, logic, and beauty. Through a mix of drawings, sculpture, calligraphy, video, and poetry, Bug Journey transforms the ordinary into the extraordinary.

More than a display of works, this is an experience of co-creation. Visitors become part of the journey—their movements, reflections, and interpretations giving new life to the traces left behind. Here, the bugs are not background creatures, but artists, architects, poets, and neighbors. Bug Journey is a gentle reminder: every step we take can be an encounter with wonder, if only we look closely.
